Hoping to find a replacement for his now-retired horse, Duke, Clint Adams heads to Minnesota, where an old friend has promised him just the animal he needs. But once he gets there, his friend seems to have vanished. And when Clint starts looking for him, someone makes it violently clear that his presence is not wanted. 


It turns out that his friend was strung up by a lynch mob out to avenge a young girl's murder—at least that's the way it's meant to look. The more he investigates, the more the Gunsmith knows that something rotten is at work. And the closer he gets to the culprits who lynched his pal, the tighter the rope around his own neck gets...
