The Mind Digger

The Mind Digger begins with a Broadway miracle: nineteen-year-old Hillary Hardy arrives with Updraft, a play so polished and emotionally exact that producer Crocker suspects something uncanny behind its brilliance. Hardy claims his gift comes from an obsessive lifelong study of mnemonics and total recall, and when the play becomes a hit, the theater world is dazzled by a new prodigy. But Hardy's success only deepens the mystery, as he vanishes into a sanitarium to pursue ever more radical experiments in memory and creativity. What follows is a sharp, darkly comic science-fiction tale about genius, ambition, and the dangerous promise of perfect recall. As Hardy's second triumph, Parodisiac, ignites a publicity frenzy and turns his anonymity into a selling point, he reveals a theory that total memory could unlock unprecedented artistic power. Yet the experiment brings a devastating cost: every remembered wound must be relived in full. Through the cynical eyes of George, Hardy's agent, the story becomes a satirical look at show business, exploitation, and the fragile line between inspiration and madness, ending with a brilliant mind trapped by the very gift it sought.
