The Prophet

'Sing and dance and be joyous,

but let each one of you be alone, 

Even as the strings of a lute are alone 

though they quiver with the same music'


So speaks Gibran's prophet Almustafa, on the eve of his return to his homeland after a 12-year exile in the city of Orphalese.  Entreated by its inhabitants to impart of his wisdom before quitting their shores, Almustafa delivers a set of short and deeply profound discourses on aspects of life and the human condition, including love and marriage, work, commerce and laws, and pain and death.


Written in 1923 by Lebanese philosopher Kahil Gibran, and since translated into over 40 languages, The Prophet is as enduring as it is popular.  The ideas it expresses in spare and poignant cadences are ever more fitting as our daily lives become increasingly cluttered and chaotic,.  Starkly and strikingly beautiful, The Prophet is a testimony to life and love.
