The quicksand morass of high-stakes Washington, D.C. politics threatens to bury Martin Cosgrove, a reporter for the Baltimore Times, as he pursues the kidnapping and probable murder of Joanna Starr. An explosive mixture of radical conservative politicians, a progressive presidential candidate with a potentially winning agenda, a blackmailing lobbyist, and a missing female congressional staff member, is the minefield Martin unwittingly enters when the missing woman’s roommate, Angela Valentine, asks him to investigate the disappearance, a year after the fact.
Martin’s investigation sparks the murder of the lobbyist and his own near demise at the hands of a contract killer, a working relationship with the police, a contract to write the Senator’s memoir, and the animus of the FBI for spoiling what appeared to be a cover up of the blackmail. He gracefully manages a torrid romance with Angela, while getting to the bottom of a complex political conspiracy.
