Charles Kingsley was an English priest, historian and novelist, famous mostly for his works Hypatia, Hereward the Wake and Westward Ho! Seriously worried about social problems, Kingsley published his first novels Yeast and Alton Locke, comprising labour and social inequality issues. Due to his interest in history, Kingsley then turned to writing historical novels and achieved a great success after publishing his works Hereward the Wake and Westward Ho! 

First published in 1864, The Roman and the Teuton is a unique collection of Charles Kingsley's lectures on various topics, including The Forest Children, The Dying Empire, The Human Deluge, The Gothic Civilizer, Dietrich’s End and other.
