It is not so much a weird tale as a discussion about weird tales. in which two men sitting on a dilapidated tomb in an old graveyard—writer Randolph Carter (H.P. surrogate) and his friend high school principal Joel Manton—debate whether a writer owes his readers an explicit description of horrors, or whether it is better to leave the greatest horrors “unnamable.” (Goodreads)
