Publisher Description

This publication is based upon two exhibitions, both of them equally important within the cultural history of the 1960s and the 1970s. The first is a series of iconic images of The Who before their big moment in 1966 and the second, The Black House captures a poor area of Islington, North London nearly a decade later. Both exhibitions were shown at the London College of Communication between 2007 and 2008 and both were inspired by the work of the photographer Colin Jones. Three decades of British youth movements have followed the tides of fortune associated with these particular movements outside of the cult of celebrity and isolation now associated with the X Factor or Pop Idol.
