  In the distant future Earth has been all but abandoned by humans. Those that remained are found on one continent in scattered preindustrial communities. Across the ocean live a variety of hybrid races initially created by wealthy humans as servants or pets.   Several moons have passed since Sage had eluded his older brother Thorn and helped his parents return to space using the last functioning portal from earth to the moon. Unknown to them their disappearance became the spark of a civil war between the wings of the mountain people.
