Through Magic Glasses and Other Lectures

Complete and unabridged, with 50 full-page plates by Karl Robert von Planitz, Rosa Bonheur and John Constable. Lectures for children on what instruments reveal: the microscope, the telescope, the spectroscope and the camera, and what each has shown that the eye cannot. Arabella Buckley had been secretary to the geologist Charles Lyell and wrote the best popular science for children of her generation. She explains the instrument first and the discovery second, which is the right order and a rare one. Its 64 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
