Variation in Acoustic Signals

This book is a resynthesis of my PhD dissertation - “Variation in Acoustic Signals - Causes and Consequences” - with the goal of providing supplementary material for an undergraduate Animal Communication course. I review the mechanisms that lead to the creation of variation in acoustic signals, and I discuss the role that that variation plays in communication. The goal is accessibility for an undergraduate biology major as well as the general public. I have included brief textual descriptions of each section followed by videos that use illustrations to demonstrate the topic.
