Through ancient art, evocative myth, intriguing archaeological discoveries and philosophical explorations, Bettany Hughes takes us on a voyage of discovery to reveal the truth behind Venus, and why this immortal goddess is so much more than nudity, romance and sex. It is both the remarkable story of one of antiquity's most potent forces, and the story of human desire - how it transforms who we are and how we behave.

Great and entertaining approach
It was a joy to read. Very well documented (although missing the references of a more scientific book) and beautifully written. The conclusion of the book reminds you of the very beginning and invites you to never perceive the goddess and her influence in a narrowed way, giving her a deep meaning under her centuries long veil of beauty and perfection.
Just one problem: The pictures have an extra Text with a precise description of them, which is not readable in my iPad. Just the first line is there, followed by „…“ and no option for opening the caption. A pity to miss those bits of information.
