Wandering Island

A novel weaving together history and fantasy, mythology and magic, dramatising Homer's classical 'Hymn to Apollo' in the spirit of Mary Renault's "The King must Die" or Manda Scott's "Boudicca". A young girl from the floating island of Delos travels to Thera to become a priestess. She shows promise but suffers from disturbing, unsettling dreams and starts to question what she is told. Trouble brews as she unwittingly ushers in the birth of the god Apollo and becomes his first devotee.

Behind the scenes there is a struggle between Hera, queen of Heaven, and her unfaithful husband and new god Zeus. The sun is slowly setting on the Minoan civilisation as the slowly crumbling matriarchal bronze age retreats before the advance of iron age patriarchy.
