In this modern exploration, Steven Faulkner and his 16-year-old son Justin embark an on a 1,000 mile route through the heart of American wilderness. They follow the path—tired, hungry, and often lost—that French explorers Marquette and Joliet did when discovering the Mississippi River in 1673. On a journey over 300 years old, from the shore of Lake Michigan all the way to St. Louis, the father and son duo take the chance to reconnect with nature, and each other, as they paddle through the pristine beauty, isolated from everyday life.
