When I Was Your Age..‪.‬

When I was your age, Amanda’s grandmother was fond of saying when she was filling her favorite grandchild with the wisdom of her years. Amanda sat dutifully, as a child, listening or pretending to listen, not really caring what the feisty old woman was like when she was Amanda’s age. Amanda couldn’t imagine the old woman ever being her age, and, even if she were, she certainly didn’t know the same troubles that Amanda did. I mean, did they even have computers and cell phones?

As the years passed and Amanda grew, she realized that her grandmother’s wisdom sessions, always prefaced with; when I was your age, were special, important. As Amanda made her way in the world, fell in and out of love, learned about what she really wanted and didn’t want, her grandmother’s voice, what she knew from being her age, became more important than she had ever realized. In searching for a voice of her own, Amanda may discover that the voice from the past is the strongest voice she ever knew.
