When the Norman Came

Miceál Ua hAnnracáin was one of the executed leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin. He was also a novelist. When the Norman Came is an historical adventure and romance, set against the background of the Norman invasion of Ireland in 1167. All the major historical figures, such as Strongbow, Dairmuid MacMurrough and his daughter Eva appear in the story. As might be expected of a writer who was passionately committed to the Irish language and the cause of independence for Ireland, the tale concentrates on an Irish heroic knight, in this case the daring and noble Cian MacMurrough.
