When You is Me / Cuando Tu Eres Yo

Gathered in this zine are the memoirs and personal essays written by participants of DSTL Arts’ Conchas y Café creative writing workshop series for adults ages 30+. Through poetry and short fiction, to drawings and photo composition, these workshops empower participants as the artists they are, helping them develop new skills in storytelling.



The theme for this Conchas y Café Zine; Volume 2, Issue 4.5, is Identity. We all have multiple facets to our identity, and the writing collected here is no different. When we speak of ourselves, it's easy to think of our race and ethnicity, but we are more than that. We are artists. We are writers. We are what we see ourselves to be first and foremost. Through this zine you will see that our community is much deeper, and more complex, than what is often seen on the surface. Read on and find the humanity in our being.
