You Again

You Again, the third in a trilogy that began with Shinny's Girls (Talon, 1989) and continued with Flashing Yellow (Turnstone, 2001), brings to a crescendo the 25-year saga of Shinny, a single mother, and her family of three daughters from three different fathers. In You Again, Shinny's grandson Mattie has escaped his partner in an identity theft scam. He's on the run and thinking of joining the army. Elfie, Shinny's youngest, discovers that she is carrying a child with a potentially serious heart defect. The question of genetics becomes acute and Shinny has to decide whether or not to tell her the truth about her origins.
The alternating voices of Shinny, the three adult "girls," and Mattie create a narrative that spans about a year. Questions raised in the first two novels are answered in You Again, and new questions arise. A compelling, stand-alone read.
