Jumping between the terrifying vastness of the Arctic and the paranoid bustle of Washington, DC, events play out at a breathless pace. Practically every scene leads to a new revelation or exciting set piece (only Brown would think to have a character tap out Morse code on an iceberg). Narrator Richard Poe tackles the prose with fantastic grit, and Brown’s short chapters are great for listening on the go.
