About the Spices

While studying Psalm 139, I came across verse 5.
This verse was already imprinted on me as a child, with the wording of an older Luther translation:

From all sides you surround me, and you hold your hands over me.

Because this verse was about Yahweh, God, they probably did not want to translate or name God as constricting or somehow negative.
For me, however, there was a big discrepancy between the common translation and what the Hebrew words mean.

On the one hand, this word surrounded (V5) is a word that is translated as enemies or besieging a city in other places, and on the other hand, it speaks only of one hand and not of hands.

In addition, the front and back are not sides at all.


Through the spice, the meaning of this fifth verse was clear to me in a moment.
