Log from the HMS Goliath -
6:07 - Never in my life have I witnessed a wind blowing as peculiar. We have every stitch of canvas aloft spread, and though it blows SE at 12 knots, we make way to the NW. Massive swells. The small island grows closer.
11:04 – Rudder is worthless.
1:18 – Lowered anchor…Much damage to ship done under force, anchor gone.
7:00 – Dusk. Ship motionless, yet the wind blows at 12 knots - all canvas aloft. We are not stuck on a reef.
10:12 – Awoken by 2nd lieutenant Hobart. Crew near mutiny -chaos on deck as I observe disturbing phenomenon. The deep ocean glows eerily. Something large swims far beneath, at times blocking the mysterious light from below and casting its haunting shadow up from the depths…
10:33 – Something large is now stationed off to starboard, out of sight…All hails unanswered…Canon hit something metallic - now under attack. Crew ordered to abandon ship for safety of island.
God save us...
