“I love, love, love Lizzy Dent.” —Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author
Sparks fly when an up-and-coming team principle and her new hot-shot driver—and former childhood crush—are forced to work together to save their careers and team in this deliciously winning Formula 1 romance.
Can they navigate the twists and turns of love without crashing and burning?
As one of the first female team principles in Formula 1, Chloe Coleman is determined to prove herself and transform her failing team from underdogs to champions. Nothing can ruin her strategy—except maybe the surprising new addition of a cocky, top-tier driver who’s lost his edge. And he just so happens to be her estranged childhood crush who still sends her heart racing.
Matt Warner needs a comeback. A former champion, he hasn’t won a race since the disastrous crash that landed his best friend and teammate in the hospital. If there’s a silver lining to this scandalous demotion, it’s his fierce and familiar new boss, Chloe. But as the competition heats up, so does an unexpected spark that turns dangerously and passionately hot. With the world watching and pressures of the season mounting, will their chemistry lead them to victory, or spin them out of control?
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
This energetic sports romance blends high-pressure competition with an emotionally grounded love story. Chloe Coleman has finally earned her place running a struggling Formula 1 team, but every decision she makes is ruthlessly scrutinized. Things get even more complicated when Matt Warner, a former champion now rebuilding his confidence, joins the team…mostly because Chloe’s never quite gotten over her schoolgirl crush on him. As the season unfolds and the stakes rise, both of them have to face their complicated pasts and potential future. Author Lizzy Dent (The Summer Job) shines at writing capable adults navigating ambition, attraction, and vulnerability without easy shortcuts. We loved how Chloe’s authority is more than just #girlboss energy, while Matt’s recovery arc adds emotional weight and tension. This is a fast-moving story about trusting yourself enough to take risks when it matters most.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The fast-paced world of Formula 1 provides the backdrop for this competent contemporary from Dent (Just One Taste). Chloe Coleman is breaking gender barriers working for Arden Racing as one of the first female F1 team principals, but struggles to overcome imposter syndrome and gain respect from her misogynistic coworkers. It doesn't help when she learns that the struggling Arden Racing has also just signed driver Matt Warner. Once a rising star, Matt's career has suffered after a traumatic crash that injured his friend and left him rattled. He's also Chloe's teen crush. The pair were close during their young, ambitious go-kart-racing days but lost touch when Matt entered F1. How exactly this backstory played out is revealed in drawn-out flashbacks hinting at some big betrayal or heartbreak that, when it's revealed, feels underwhelming. Meanwhile, in the present, Chloe must find a way to work with Matt as his manager and help him rise in the racing ranks once more. Matt's and Chloe's ambition and resilience make them admirable heroes, but Dent doesn't do quite enough to make the racing scenes exciting to those not already invested in F1. Devoted sports romance fans, however, are sure to have a good time with this.
