Udgiverens beskrivelse

"If anyone on the verge of action should judge himself according to the outcome, he would never begin."

Fear and Trembling is an influential philosophical work by Søren Kierkegaard, published in 1843 under the pseudonym Johannes de silentio (John the Silent). The title is a reference to Philippians 2:12, "...continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling." Kierkegaard wanted to understand the Abraham's anxiety when God tested him by commanding him to sacrifice his son Isaac. Since Abraham had only the divine imperative before him, what could he do?

Kierkegaard's writings continue to have significant influence in modern Protestant theology and existentialism to this day.
