The late Ray Bradbury was more than a master of science fiction—he also had a keen understanding of the human condition. Few of his works showcase this intersection as fantastically as this short-story collection. In “Tomorrow’s Child,” future medical technology accidentally causes a couple’s baby to be born into another dimension. In the title story—which inspired a beloved Twilight Zone episode and a cult classic TV movie—a clumsy robot grandmother gradually melts the hearts of a grieving family. The astonishing “what if?” of each tale captured our imaginations, but it’s Bradbury’s deep comprehension of his characters’ vulnerability, loneliness, and nostalgia that touched our hearts and stuck with us long after.
