Touching Medieval Love Story
This historical novel offers insight into a very touching, medieval love story. I had heard of Heloise and Abelard before, but had never actually heard about what happened.
The novel has a modern father and daughter story woven around the story of how Heloise and Abelard meet and live their lives. The device is a nice way of helping uninitiated readers understand nuances of the medieval story, but it pales in comparison with the main plot. It would have been nice with more time with the main characters, because they could have been developed into more round and psychologically more complete characters. There is perhaps a little too much exposition and too much telling what happened.
Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable read and I was introduced to two people in history of whom I had heard but about whom I had not really known anything.
