Kate Chopin was an American author of short stories and novels. The Chopin’s creation includes the feminist themes: most of her fiction is set in Louisiana and most of her best-known works focus on the lives of sensitive, intelligent women. Within a decade of her death, Chopin was widely recognized as one of the leading writers of her time. 


“Regret” was first published in 1897 when it appeared in Chopin's short story collection “A Night in Acadia”. The story is about a woman named Mamzelle Aurlie, that lived a lonely life, and she thought she is happy with the life she has. She had never thought of marrying and had never been in love. She was quite alone in the world, except of her dog Ponto, and servants, who lived in her cabins and worked her crops. But one day by force of occasion the four children of her nearest neighbor were thrown into her care, and she began to truly live…
