The plan was always to leave so why did saying goodbye hurt so bad?

To escape my upbringing, my home, leaving my small town is all I ever wanted. Only one thing stands in my way… my final business project for my degree. And for my plan to work, I need the best. So when the Academic Dean of my college offers me what he considers the plum assignment, I have no choice but to jump at the chance. Too bad it's with them.
