“Take my word for it, James Reece is one rowdy motherf***er. Get ready!”—Chris Pratt, star of the #1 Amazon Prime series The Terminal List
“A rare gut-punch writer, full of grit and insight, who we will be happily reading for years to come.” —Gregg Hurwitz, New York Times bestselling author of the Orphan X series?
In this third high-octane thriller in the “seriously good” (Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author) Terminal List series, former Navy SEAL James Reece must infiltrate the Russian mafia and turn the hunters into the hunted.
Deep in the wilds of Siberia, a woman is on the run, pursued by a man harboring secrets—a man intent on killing her.
A traitorous CIA officer has found refuge with the Russian mafia with designs on ensuring a certain former Navy SEAL sniper is put in the ground.
Half a world away, James Reece is recovering from brain surgery in the Montana wilderness, slowly putting his life back together with the help of investigative journalist Katie Buranek and his longtime friend and SEAL teammate Raife Hastings. Unbeknownst to them, the Russian mafia has set their sights on Reece in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
As Jack Carr’s most visceral and heart-pounding thriller yet, Savage Son explores the darkest instincts of humanity through the eyes of a man who has seen both the best and the worst of it.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Rogue CIA agent James Reece is the kind of man that bad guys just shouldn’t mess with…but some people never learn. The third novel in Jack Carr’s action-packed series finds Reece continuing on his path of scorched-earth revenge against his nemesis, CIA mole Oliver Grey. But when Grey sics a particularly nasty Russian mobster on Reece, it looks like the tables might turn. A deadly game follows, as Reece shows his enemies how dangerous it is to bait a man who has nothing left to lose. Savage Son is a riveting and high-stakes adventure packed with Tom Clancy–style technical details. Carr, a former Navy SEAL, even provides a glossary to explain some of the military jargon—and small sections of the story are redacted with black boxes to keep the vibe 100% realistic. All of this adds up to an explosive tale of vengeance, fueled by pure adrenaline.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Former Navy SEAL James Reece takes refuge in the mountains of Montana, where he recuperates from brain surgery, in the pseudonymous Carr's impressive third Terminal List thriller (after 2019's True Believer). Meanwhile, a treasonous CIA officer from Reece's past joins forces with a Russian mafia kingpin to assassinate him. The planned ambush catches the attention of a sociopathic Russian spymaster, who wants to hunt Reece for sport and warns Reece of the ambush. The attack, which fails, and the kidnapping of a friend's sister draw Reece back into action. Geopolitical realism and tactical authenticity mark Reece's efforts to build a team of former operatives to take the fight to his enemies. Carr, a former Navy SEAL himself and a Thriller Award finalist, immerses the reader in the plot with near-omniscient access to the expansive cast of characters. Though his keen eye for detail and the in-depth backstory slow the pace at times, Carr is best when bullets are flying. Vince Flynn fans will enjoy the explosive action; those seeking the subtlety and subtext of John le Carr may want to pass.
