A highly acclaimed American writer of fantasy, horror, and science fiction, Fritz Leiber was also a poet, actor in theater and films, playwright, and chess expert. Along with other masters of fantasy such as Robert E. Howard and Michael Moorcock, Leiber is one of the fathers of sword and sorcery and invented the term. Leiber was also one of the forefathers of urban fantasy and heroic fantasy as well as a staunch social critic, particularly through his highly influential short stories.
