Even though Katherine Parr’s fate as the spouse who survived the notoriously brutal Henry VIII is well known, Plaidy’s story got our hearts racing. With meticulous detail, she brings to life the king’s mercurial temper, his suspicion of Katherine’s sympathies, and his resentment against his wife when she fails to produce an heir to the throne. This is a great read for fans of courtly intrigue and royal drama.
