History Behind the Game: Tennessee-BYU

Tennessee and BYU will play a home-and-home football series in 2019 and in 2023. The Volunteers and Cougars, two historic college football programs, have never played before until now. Although the two schools have yet to play on the gridiron until 2019, the history between the Volunteer State and the Salt Lake Valley is one that has shaped the United States westward. History dates back to when James K. Polk, a Tennessean, served as the 11th President of the United States, during a time when he worked together with Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President, Brigham Young.
