The life and adventures of Marin, a young surfer girl living a Pura Vida in Costa Rica with her family, horses and wolfdog Oso. Written and illustrated by artist, author and father, Robb Havassy. ...inspired by life, family, adventure, ocean and art.

“Once there was a young girl named Marin who loved the sea.  As fate would have her family moved away from the big city to Costa Rica, a beautiful, nature-rich land, settling on the shores of a beautiful and serene bay.  Inspired by watching her father and the playful dolphin surf the beautiful waves near their home, Marin begins to imagine what it would be like for her to ride her own waves. But she is young and still unsure if she can, until one night when she has a dream that changes her life forever.

The story follows the adventures of a girl, Marin, as she moves away from her childhood home and friends in the city to start a new life in a new land with her family and wolf dog Oso.  The first in a series, “Marin’s Wave” tells the fictional tale of Marin and her family and their move to Costa Rica. We  follow her evolution as she falls in love with her new home, the ocean, it’s surrounding nature and beauty.  She also falls for the waves and is mentored by her father to learn how to become a surfer, a horseback rider, an artist and environmentally and socially conscious young human.  She learns that she is sharing the world with the people and nature that surrounds us and that we are all connected.  We follow her lessons about life, the ocean, surfing, art, nature and other cultures from her experiences on her own, and through the lessons she learns from her father and mother.”

“This book features some of my favorite classic surf art from my 20 years as a fine artist as well as new pieces created to go hand in hand with the story, and often elevating and expanding the story through its imagery.   These paintings and illustration were directly inspired from my family’s life in Costa Rica and my daughters journey and adventures here over the past 6 years.  “Marin’s Wave” just a story of a rite of passage for a young girl, it is also story of a father experiencing the world through the eyes and life of his daughter.  This book is a celebration of fatherhood and family. That’s always been “me” as an artist…I want to make something that elicits emotion.  If it doesn’t then it’s not worth creating.” RH
