Not For You: Book Two is a sequel to a multi-generational tale of family lore that spans from 1857-2015.


Presented in two parts, Book One (2017) introduces three ordinary families from the shadow of the Indian Independence Movement (pre-1947). Their narratives intersect here, in Book Two, in a free, cosmopolitan India and further continue, to reflect on the pulse of the United States of America, at the turn of the 21st century.


This is a saga about the intersection of everyday culture, food, expectations and prejudice; how ordinary individuals redefine convention; and how their passions chart the course of their unconventional lives.


Not For You sets the stage for intense and cathartic discussions: the evolution of sexism, feminism, and identity of the Indian woman over the last century; the incremental and distorted metamorphosis of social and ethnic discrimination; and the influence of increasingly liberal lifestyles, migration, and immigration on the definition of home and therefore, its food.


This novel asks: how does society subliminally both cull and curate culinary heritage? Who are the culinary gatekeepers?


This food fiction contains more than 70 traditional and old fashioned comfort food recipes from India.
