Beguiling

Lily Maitland felt the time had come to put away her dreams of marriage and a family of her own and take charge of her life, steer her future in another direction and hope she didn't do anything silly like she did last spring, falling for a former naval commander simply because he'd rescued her from being pummeled by the potted palms.  She knew better now, and it was time to do her own rescuing.  Easier said than done, however, especially with an extended family that try to detour her from her plan to become an illustrator, to earn her own funds and secure her future as an independent woman. Now if she could only stop thinking about that naval commander . . . 

Gregory Clarke's life took a drastic turn when he inherited a title, a dilapidated manor house and a passel of orphaned children.  Any options he had, like re-enlisting in the Royal Navy, were gone.  And now he was drowning in account ledgers, servants, acres of land that needed work and the list went on and on.  Any memories he had of Lily Maitland were buried under the debris of Lynbrooke Manor.  Until one day he finds a woman standing in the entry hall, claiming to be the artist for some idiot's book on fairytales and folklore.  Now, if she were applying for the governess position he might reconsider . . .
