The traditional workplace was a physical place where work was done. People were bound to their desks. They were bound to one location. They were reliant upon single access points to phones and any technologies needed to undertake their work.
Today we are seeing a new way of working in global organisations. One where work is being undertaken in new ways and in new places. Where work is not tied to being in a particular location or building. Where the ubiquitous nature of internet technologies means connectivity from almost anywhere. Where the workplace is rapidly transforming towards being undertaken anywhere, anytime, and through any device, allowing workers to create greater business value.
As such even basic capabilities need to change. They need to become more social and integrated into other capabilities.
The following book provides an overview as to what the author see's is IBM's strategy and approach in this area.
