Descripción editorial

The french german General Ducoudray-Holstein, as he describes it in the preface of this work, took five years on its writing and investigation, based on his own experience, for him being friend, confident and a military adjuntant of general Bolivar and a direct and active witness of the independence movements of the Spanish Americas. The book was published in 1828 in english and later in german and french but never in the spanish language for unkown reasons.

The book tells some unknown facts of the private and personal life of general Bolivar, his character, his ambitions, his flaws, excesses and mistakes; and his relationship with the generals Mariño, Brion, Arismendi, Piar, Paéz and Soublette and the foreigners who supported the revolution of the spanish americas; plus some facts about the libertarian expedition at Aux Cayes, Haiti and the general situation of New Granada and Venezuela, before and after the wars of independence.

The author presents eyewitness details, backed up with documents still in existence and shows the image of a Bolivar never heard before. For some, this work can be controversial, ridiculous or false and for some others it can be real, truthful and just. Just like the very author warns, only an imparcial reader could judge if what’s written here is true and only history will give it the place it deserves.
