As an engineering student juggling a difficult class load and the emotional fallout of a bad breakup, Alex is understandably skeptical of jumping back into the dating pool and makes her disinterest clear to anyone who tries to pursue anything remotely serious. Although she's inherently introverted and tends to stick to her close circle of girlfriends, she does attend her university's weekly chess club meetings where she rarely finds a decent competitor.
