INTRODUCTION Development in middle-income developing countries through modernization process has witnessed rapid growth in the economy and material wealth, resulting in dramatic changes in the urban areas. This complex change process in the newly industrializing society has brought about dynamic social change amongst its urban inhabitants. Changes in the form of social relations in urban areas saw new social ties based on association and formal arrangements. As such the emergence of new social institutions is inevitable as new forms of association emerged in cities. These modernizing features of urban communities in developing countries rely on new forms of social solidarity. How do urban communities in developing countries overcome local issues?
