This 1916 academic volume includes a lengthy essay on Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and its controversial Jewish and Christian characters, especially Shylock and Antonio. The essay provides insight into each of the characters as well as background of Shakespeare's possible religious activities and relevant historic events occurring around the time of the play's publication.
