Abbie Jarvis couldn’t wait to escape the sleepy California farm town of her youth. But being a high-power prosecutor in New York City isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Suffering from burn-out, she takes a vacation trip back to Wheeler to visit her father and decompress. What she discovers is that her father’s hardware store is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Everyone knows everyone in Wheeler, and everyone knows T.J. Hillyard, the one-time football star whose career ended with a devastating injury. Now he’s back in Wheeler, running a bar. He and Abbie weren’t particularly close growing up; he was a celebrated jock and she was a quiet bookworm. But he knows her father, and he’s happy to help her get the hardware store back on its feet. In return, she will help him with a nuisance lawsuit against his bar.
