Description

A heart rendering diary of how one mother struggled to cope with the birth of her baby girl, born with Down’s Syndrome. The book is a bible for any parent or carer trapped in the depths of despair, or feeling isolated and alone. The honesty at times is brutal but compelling to read. It is a truthful account of the adult mind so fragile and the child so strong. The emotions are raw and captivating. A unique book with a unique dual narrative style that lends a voice to the baby girl as well as to the mother.

About the Author

Gulshanah Choudhuri, one of five children was born in London in the summer of ’69. Her parents came from Pakistan to England in sixties, and later moved to Peterborough.

Graduating from Aberdeen University with an LLB honours degree, she came back to England and qualified as a barrister securing a pupillage with one of the most high profile criminal sets in England, Hollis Whiteman Chambers in Queen Elizabeth Buildings. As a typical Gemini, Gulshanah has two sides to her personality, academic and creative.

Not willing to stay in law, Gulshanah won a place to study broadcast journalism in Birmingham where she trained with Central TV. After only three months in her job, Gulshanah’s first documentary on mental health in Asian Women was nominated for a National Mental health award by The Guardian.

She then began her stint as a star of the small screen at Anglia TV in Norwich, and combined this with going back to the bar and conducting trials in the week. She was the only person in the country to do both careers simultaneously. She is currently writing a screenplay and actively seeking a commission for her play following a secondment with the Birmingham Rep theatre.
