Publisher Description

Vineyards were planted in Lake County as early as the late 1800s but ceased completely during Prohibition and were replaced by pear and walnut orchards. Since then, Lake County has been synonymous with orchards and certainly pears. But it is the wine that draws us here, and all of the interesting facts that surround it, including the fact that much of Lake County used to be part of the famous Napa Valley until 1861. By then the current political boundaries were established and Lake County was created. Today Lake County is recognized as one of the great wine districts in California and the wines produced here are reaching higher quality level for every year.
