Leah's Hero

She survived the crash.

Now she has to survive the guilt.

Leah was a nurse aboard the generation ship. She was trained for emergencies, trained to save lives, trained to stay calm when everything went wrong. But when the ship fell from the sky and a patient was ripped from her grasp, something inside Leah broke with it.

On Tajss, there is no time for nightmares. No counselor. No soft place to fall. Just rain, hunger, a deadly jungle, and the constant threat of the Order that destroyed her world. Leah knows the others need her to pull her weight. She just does not know how to stop drowning in the memory of the woman she failed to save.

Urukol was once one of the Order's strongest warriors, until an attack stole his wing, part of his tail, and the future he believed made him worthy. Cast out and left to die, he survived, but he no longer sees himself as a true male. He cooks, tends, helps his hidden brothers, and keeps his distance from dreams meant for whole warriors.

Leah should be one more human female to protect.

Instead, she becomes his reason to stand.

When a storm floods the survivors' shelter, Urukol leads them into the jungle, wounded, exhausted, and determined to get Leah to safety. But Tajss is not done testing them. The rain turns deadly. The ground gives way. Predators hunt in the dark. And when Leah and Urukol are separated from the group, survival depends on the two broken pieces they keep trying to hide.

She knows how to heal his wounds.

He knows how to make her feel safe enough to face her own.

But the Order is closing in, and Urukol still believes Leah deserves a whole warrior, not a maimed exile who can barely wield the weapon that once defined him. Leah sees something different. She sees the male who dives into floodwater for her, shields her with his body, fights monsters with one good arm, and proves with every breath that heroism was never about being unbroken.
