More Than a Jest

This Halloween, the dead may not be the scariest thing Ann Kinnear faces.

Halloween should be all about costumes, candy, and pranks—but for Ann Kinnear, the real tricks are waiting in the dark.

When classic car collector Russell Caldwell hires Ann to look into a string of increasingly unsettling pranks, it's clear he doesn't put much stock in her supposed ability to connect with the spirit world. Ann suspects bored teenagers, but it's a paying job, and she steels herself for a long night in the cold garage at the back of Russell's property.

What she finds instead is that the line between trick and threat—and between the living and the dead—can be perilously thin.

"More Than a Jest" is perfect for readers who enjoy paranormal mystery, supernatural suspense, and eerie tales with a Halloween twist. Fans of Simone St. James and Barbara Michaels will savor this clever, unsettling addition to the Ann Kinnear Suspense Shorts.
