Abstract In Canada, and in particular in the Province of Quebec, productions based on local quality attributes have emerged, with a more or less strong link to local groups. This article is investigating the link between the concept of territory and the social construction of collective actions to develop such products. We propose an analysis based on four case-studies of local products in four central regions, which bring to the fore front the great diversity of the links between territories and products, as well as the importance of local actors strategies. These four different paths lead to the conclusion that the issue is more about local collective construction of the notion of origin than about a lack of concrete l ink with territories.
