Raising the Imperfect Child offers parents new skills to help them navigate the difficult task of raising happy, competent, and well-adjusted kids. Problems often arise when parents label children's and teens' unwanted actions as misbehavior when in fact, the children/teens are making mistakes. When these mistakes are viewed from a perspective of curiosity and fascination, children can be guided to find solutions on their own without feeling like they are being shamed or talked down to. Giving children the opportunity to make mistakes, learn from them, and work through problems on their own (with assistance from their parents, of course) will lead to much better results than scolding or punishing.
