Samad Vurghun - Poetry

Samad Vurghun (1906-1956), born Samad Vakilov in the village of Yukhary-Salahly in Gazakh District, was the brightest star of 20th century Azerbaijani poetry. After graduating from the Gazakh Pedagogical Seminary in 1924, Samad spent the next five years of his life teaching at schools in Guba and Ganja. It was during this time that he started writing his first poems, publishing them in local and national newspapers.
