His hand closes around my neck. Not enough to hurt, just enough to remind me how easily he could. One squeeze and it would be over.

"Cass…" he murmurs, his voice low.

"What…what are you doing, Alexis?"

"You want to be cheeky with me?" His tone drops.

"W‑what?"

"If you talk to me the way you did before, then you deal with the consequences." His eyes lock on mine. "Can you handle the consequences?"

My lips tremble.

His gaze flicks down to them. "I could kiss you right now," he mutters.

"Why…"

"Why not?"

"You know why? I'm unwanted by the men in my pack—"

"Men? They're not men. You've been dealing with boys. I'm no boy."

He makes my whole body shiver.

"So... do you want me to?" His warm breath brushes my lips, sending shivers through me.
