The Dark Flower

Three passions in one man's life — in youth, in the prime of life and in middle age — each with its own season, each ruinous, and none of them the marriage he is in. Galsworthy published this in 1913 and his admirers were shocked; it is the most naked thing he wrote, and the structure, three novellas making one life, is why it survives while his plays do not.
