The Late Lamented

" [Ed & Am are] an engaging pair of detectives… [Fredric Brown is] a real pro— a natural storyteller." — New York Times

Before getting his ticket punched while crossing the street, Jason Rogers may have swiped $46,000 from the town where he was treasurer. In fact, there isn' t a shred of evidence that doesn' t point to him — only his surviving daughter believes in his innocence. Then again, she might have 46,000 good reasons to. When Hunter & Hunter get the case, Ed must gain the confidence of Rogers' daughter, the beautiful Wanda, while Am works the shadows. Of course, things don' t go as planned. There' s a shaved gorilla named Blackie who takes exception to Ed' s interest in Wanda, a mystery accomplice, and a lot of inconvenient facts that just don' t add up. As usual for Ed & Am, what it adds up to is murder.

" [E]nough good people put Brown on their must-read lists and then become evangelists to keep his name alive on the same high shelf as Hammett, Thompson, Ross Macdonald, and other crime icons." — Dick Adler, Chicago Tribune

" [Fredric Brown is] my favorite writer of all time." — Mickey Spillane
