In The Love Book, Fiona O’Brien chronicles ties between old friends for a warm, relatable read. Vonnie, Abby and Diana start at an Irish boarding school together, and commit their wishes for love to a shrine in a Dublin church. O’Brien retraces these teenage hopes and dreams in masterfully weaved vignettes. Thirty years later both Abby and Diana are married with children, while Vonnie is a California-based writer whose departure from Ireland aged 17 remains shrouded in secrecy. On her eventual return, their lives (and individual choices) are each explored within a superbly snaking plot of shifting perspectives.
